Rare opportunity to own a classic J/36 racer cruiser that has been highly upgraded and ready for the next adventure. After spending the last five years on the Pacific Northwest racing circuit, Monkeybones (PHRF of 81) is set up for entry level and experienced racers alike. Highly competitive in her class with top finishes in many races including first in class Race to the Straits 2013, second in class Northern Century 2013, first place STYC Fall Regatta 2013, third in class Race to the Straits 2014, second in class Race to the Straits 2015.
Monkeybones can go head to head with her competition, often finishing in front of faster rated boats. The J/36 has a sail area to displacement ratio of 25, higher than other similarly sized J-boats, allowing her to fly upwind, especially in light conditions. Her fractional rig and fractional spinnaker provide the beautiful classic lines we all love.
The current owners invested heavily to upgrade the boat when they took over ownership in 2012. This included all new electrical, B&G instruments, stereo, VHF, batteries and shore power battery charger. At the beginning of 2014 Monkeybones underwent an extensive refit at CSR Marine in Ballard. This included overhauling the rig and replacing all of the mast fittings as well as running rigging, new backstay arrangement and the addition of check stays to give greater control of the main for the varying wind conditions of the PNW. The biggest upgrade was replacement of the deck core under the jib sheet tracks and reinforcing them with G10 plates, resulting in a stronger and stiffer boat. Final additions included new life line stanchions as well as replacing the primary jib winches with Harken self-tailing models. Over the past several years the original sail inventory was upgraded with a North Kevlar medium #1, North 3DI #3, and North S2 racing spinnaker. This complements an existing Quantum #1 and a range of cruising sails.
Why are we selling such a great boat you ask? Because we just upgraded to a J/125!
